WHAT WE DO
Our goal is to understand the neural circuit mechanisms that transform experience into memory. To accomplish this we develop new sensors, neural interfaces, and computational tools that expand our ability to observe and understand brain activity.
HOW WE DO IT
Informed by the needs of our experiments, we build the technologies required to find the next breakthrough in neuroscience.
Integrated Circuits & Image Sensors
We develop custom camera microchips to capture individual neurons’ activity at sub-millisecond timescales across large populations of neurons.
Miniature Systems
We build the full optical systems required to use our high-resolution camera sensors in experiments, including camera lenses, housing and optical fiber. These optical systems are small enough for animals to move and behave naturally.
In Vivo Experimentation
Using our technologies, we investigate how the brain transforms experiences into memories. As an animal explores a new space or sleeps, we can continuously observe the activity of the brain and begin to understand how neuron-types work together in complex neural networks to form memory.

Advance the search for treatments of brain diseases like Alzheimer’s and epilepsy
Human methods of cognition are more effective and efficient than current statistical AI models. As we learn these mechanisms we can power AI in brand new ways.
Develop AI models that learn as humans do
The microchips and devices we develop are widely useful for biomechanical research and can break new ground in other types of brain research and biological studies.
Our technologies will enable us to detect the specific mechanisms that cause brain diseases, opening up new targeted treatment methods.
